A Virginia adult day center has agreed to pay $385,917 to settle allegations that it billed the state’s Medicaid program for transportation services that were never provided, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Agape Health Management Inc., which operates the Agape Adult Day Healthcare Center in Alexandria, VA, provides community-based health, therapeutic and social services for seniors and people with disabilities. The company also provides transportation services to and from its facility.

The group was accused of knowingly submitting false or fraudulent claims for those transportation services for Medicaid beneficiaries, many of whom were not present or transported to Agape on the claimed dates of service.

There was no determination of liability in the case, but the settlement will resolve the federal and state civil fraud allegations against Agape, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said in a press release.
