With Congress waltzing off, reform advocates will need to start singing a different tune next week

So much for the healthcare reform fast track. On Monday, the House will begin a summer recess that extends into September. The Senate will start its annual summer break one week later. That means healthcare reform advocates will need to push harder while tamping down expectations. This marks a dramatic shift from a few weeks ago, when it appeared that a new law would be on the books shortly. Watch for advocates to step up calls for change. As for lawmakers, returning to their home districts will allow them to get feedback from the people who really matter: those who will later decide whether to re-elect them.
