Long-term care providers might want to dial in to a conference call Monday that will discuss requirements of hospitals and other providers under the NOTICE Act. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will host the “town hall” call to further hone the measure, which requires hospitals to give Medicare beneficiaries clear and timely written and oral explanations about their admittance status.

The law was drafted to curb hospital abuse and overuse of “observation stay” designations, which were sometimes confusing beneficiaries and would-be post-acute care providers.

The Notice of Observation Treatment and Implication for Care Eligibility (NOTICE) Act was passed overwhelmingly but still has not been fully shaped.

The conference call will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. Eastern Time Dec. 21. To participate, dial (800) 837-1935 at least 15 minutes in advance to ensure participation from the beginning.
