Poised for legislative victory, AAHSA annual convention kicks off this weekend

Officials with the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging could be at the brink of exquisitely good timing for their annual meeting and exposition. The U.S. House is set to vote Saturday on the CLASS Act, a disability long-term care insurance program powerfully supported and promoted by AAHSA, which set its meeting dates years ago.

The nursing home association's convention runs Sunday through Wednesday in Chicago, and the CLASS Act undoubtedly will be given a lot of attention at educational and general sessions. Storyteller Garrison Keillor headlines a list of keynote speakers that includes author Gail Sheehy and former UNICEF and Peace Corps leader Carol Bellamy.
