Bedridden residents are at a high risk for developing pressure ulcers. But a mattress being developed in Switzerland may help minimize the problem. The bed’s mattress lies on a slatted frame that is both flexible and joint-less. The mattress works by imitating a healthy person’s usual sleep movements. As a result, the resident does not need to be constantly repositioned. The bed may be available for purchase by year’s end.
