The number of independent living units provided by the 10 largest providers in the U.S. has more than doubled in the last 15 years, according to a recent study.

The report by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and Ziegler Capital Markets Group also found that the 10 largest not-for-profit senior living providers represent nearly 40% of the total number of systems in the study. This is the third year of Annual AAHSA Ziegler 100, a report on the nation’s 100 largest senior living providers.

Senior housing systems in the study range in size from 690 to 20,991 units. More than 50% of the systems studied offer government-subsidized, or affordable, senior housing, according to the AZ 100 report.
