A new study finds that some diuretics reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by more than 70% in people aged 65 and older.

Potassium-sparing diuretics had the greatest effect on cutting Alzheimer’s risk, according to researchers. The use of any of the so-called antihypertensives, including diuretics, beta-blockers and dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, also was linked with a lower risk of Alzheimer’s.

The report was published in the Archives of Neurology.
