An office employee at a Pennsylvania skilled nursing facility was charged this week with stealing $73,500 in checks meant for the facility and its residents.

Patricia Greenwood, 60, allegedly deposited the checks into accounts in the name of Brighten Health Group LLC, the former operator of the Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center in Lake Ariel, PA, and would withdraw the money a few days later, the Scranton Times-Tribune reported. The thefts were discovered during an audit by the facility’s new owner, Saber Healthcare Group LLC.

The thefts allegedly began in July 2011 and occurred up until Greenwood was fired in November 2015. She was charged Tuesday with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.

“We notified the appropriate authorities upon being made aware of the matter and conducted an internal investigation and reconciliation to ensure that all residents and family members are made whole as a result of any financial irregularities,” an attorney for Saber told the Times-Tribune.
