Prosecutors in Oklahoma have dropped terrorism-related charges against a former nursing home worker accused of threatening to behead a colleague, news sources reported Wednesday.

Other witnesses from the Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation Center have come forward to say that 30-year-old Jacob Mugambi Muriithi was “clearly joking,” prompting the withdrawal of charges, according to The Oklahoman.

Authorities charged Muriithi with a terrorism hoax in October. He allegedly threatened to behead his co-worker as an act of solidarity with ISIS, the militant group that has taken over large swaths of territory in the Middle East and is targeted in U.S. military actions.

Muriithi was taken into custody the day after a fired worker beheaded a woman at a food store in the nearby town of Moore, but police said Muriithi was not implicated in that incident.

The 62-bed facility had hired Muriithi in July, and a background check did not turn up any criminal record, according to a statement emailed to McKnight’s in October. Bellevue fired Muriithi because his threatening remark violated facility policies, the statement explained.
