Toshiba unveils image sensor
Toshiba CMOS image sensor
Toshiba America Electronic Components has debuted an addition to a 1.12-micro back-side illuminated CMOS image sensor, which allows for video recording for mobile devices.
The T4KA3 8-megapixel sensor targets midrange smartphones, tablets and action cameras with 720p resolution, enabling HD video capture at a rate of 240 equivalent frames per second (fps). It operates at 15% lower power and is much smaller in area than Toshiba's prior 8MP sensor, the company said.
Sample shipments are underway, with mass production scheduled for April 2015.
