Reflecting an increase in demand for slings, lifts and powered electric wheelchairs, the patient handling equipment market is expected to hit $23.4 billion by 2024, according to a new report by Grand View Research Inc.

A high risk of physical injuries in manually lifting patients leads providers to choose more products that also include medical beds or ambulatory aids. The report says mechanical and nonmechanical equipment is expected to rise 12%. Medical beds dominated the revenue share of the industry in 2015.

Home care providers are expected to buy more equipment as demand for their services increases, the report noted.

Companies listed in the report included Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., Invacare Corporation; Benmor Medical Ltd, Joerns Healthcare and Prism Medical Ltd.
