Agility Holdings LLC has purchased VCPI from Extendicare Inc. The latter company created VCPI in 2000.

Craig Christianson, currently the general manager of North America for Promega Corporation, and his wife Karen own Agility.

“My goal is for VCPI to become broadly employee-owned over time, and provide a long-term perspective to benefit all our constituencies: employees, clients, the community, suppliers, and shareholders as a model of conscious capitalism,” Craig Christianson said.

The company will retain the VCPI branding and keep its headquarters in Milwaukee. Out of a desire to keep more than 100 jobs in the state, the Wisconsin Business Development agency provided SBA financing and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation contributed tax credits.

Dan Weise, who will continue as chief executive officer and oversee day-to-day operations, said the company hopes to add at least 15 employees in the next year.

Weise told McKnight’s that the Christiansons’ investment was “the best solution for VCPI going forward.” When Extendicare sold off its U.S. skilled nursing facilities, it was in both parties’ interest to find a buyer. But Craig Christianson understands the long-term care industry, Weise said.
