The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services plans to
contact healthcare providers in Boston this month about participation in a
demonstration to compare post-acute rehabilitation providers.
The agency will collect and compare information in the
city from acute care hospitals and four locations where patients may be treated
after leaving the hospitals. These are skilled nursing facilities, long-term
care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and home health agencies.
Besides Boston, CMS has selected nine other markets for the program.
The purpose of the Post-Acute Care Payment Reform
Demonstration program is to analyze the health of beneficiaries and the care
they receive across various post-acute healthcare providers. Ultimately, CMS
hopes to create a new post-acute payment system. CMS will examine a total of 10
markets for the demonstration.
