The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services plans tocontact healthcare providers in Boston this month about participation in ademonstration to compare post-acute rehabilitation providers.

 The agency will collect and compare information in thecity from acute care hospitals and four locations where patients may be treatedafter leaving the hospitals. These are skilled nursing facilities, long-termcare hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and home health agencies.Besides Boston, CMS has selected nine other markets for the program. 

The purpose of the Post-Acute Care Payment ReformDemonstration program is to analyze the health of beneficiaries and the carethey receive across various post-acute healthcare providers. Ultimately, CMShopes to create a new post-acute payment system. CMS will examine a total of 10markets for the demonstration.
