Path of the Patient: Ages and Stages in IBD

Program Description:

Clinicians face many challenges when diagnosing and managing patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, known collectively as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This CME activity uses case scenarios and interactive polling to address practical management strategies that incorporate evidence-based practices and current American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) guidelines into the diagnosis and management of IBD. In addition, the activity incorporates strategies to effectively address barriers to medication adherence, and surveillance strategies to reduce colorectal cancer risk for patients with ulcerative colitis, and also summarizes the safety issues related to the continuation of various IBD therapies during pregnancy.

There are two cases in this activity. To obtain CME credit, participants must complete both cases.

Target Audience:

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of gastroenterologists and other clinicians who treat patients with IBD.

Activity Objectives:

After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

— Incorporate ACG guidelines when diagnosing and creating a treatment plan for patients with IBD

— Summarize the safety issues related to the continuation of various therapies to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease during pregnancy

— Incorporate surveillance and chemoprevention strategies to reduce colorectal cancer risk for patients with IBD

— Design effective treatment strategies that address barriers to medication adherence
