A recent nationwide survey of hospital patients finds room for improvement in the area of pain management.

The new customer satisfaction survey, which was conducted as part of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, sampled patients at roughly 2,400 hospitals across the country. While researchers found patients were typically satisfied with their care, almost 33% gave their hospital low marks for pain management.

Also raising consumers’ ire were discharge instructions. Nearly 20% of respondents said they were not clearly communicated. The results of the survey appear in the New England Journal of Medicine.
