Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain must create a broader reform plan that includes “increased comprehensive coverage for America’s long-term and post-acute care systems,” the nation’s largest nursing home association said Tuesday.

“While we are pleased that Senator McCain included long-term care in his healthcare reform proposal, we encourage him to ensure that all of our nation’s frail, elderly and disabled have access to the highest quality care for their specific care needs,” stated Bruce Yarwood, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association. He urged McCain to review the association’s own reform plan, which can be found at www.ahca.org.

McCain’s healthcare reform proposal puts the focus on various states’ test programs, which generally emphasize home-based care, AHCA claims.
