Taking the long view

President Bush said this week that the nation's economy is structurally sound for the long haul. He added that the stimulus package approved by Congress will help deal with uncertainties that may temporarily exist.Later today, he is scheduled to sign the stimulus package of tax rebates and incentives for businesses. "Money will be going directly to American workers and families and individuals," he said. He also encouraged businesses to start picturing how they can invest their freed-up capital.

The product uses lithium ion battery technology to deliver 30-minute bursts of therapy separated by 20-minute cooling cycles over a five-hour period. The device can be worn during virtually any activity, allowing residents to obtain pain relief during normal activities without being tethered to an electrical outlet, the company said.

A digital signature feature provides every user with a true digital certificate, allowing a provider to digitally sign each fax from a secure, HIPAA-ready platform. Special annotation features also allow users to edit faxed documents with tools such as checkmarks and text boxes, company officials said.
 

Report: More employers offer LTC insurance

There are now nearly 10,000 employer groups offering a form of employer-sponsored long-term care insurance, with just over two million Americans insured by these plans," according to research conducted by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance and published in the organization's 2008 Sourcebook. "Sales of group long-term care insurance policies increased in 2007 compared to the prior year," explains Jesse Slome, executive director of the national industry organization. "Much of the growth came from new entrants into existing plans and buy-ups by existing policy holders," he said.
 

Baxter halts production of blood thinner

February 13, 2008

Baxter International has temporarily halted production of certain heparin vials amid reports of serious adverse reactions to the widely used, injectable blood thinner. Baxter has not broadened a prior recall of heparin, however. Baxter sells about 100,000 vials of the generic prescription drug each day.
