Report: Medicaid long-term care spending to skyrocket over next 20 years

Many consumers are ill-informed about Medicare and Medicaid's role in long-term care, and greater planning could help reduce the danger of soaring Medicaid costs, according to a new report from America's Health Insurance Plans.

Nursing Home Transparency Act surfaces in House

U.S. Reps. Pete Stark (D-CA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) recently introduced a new version of the Nursing Home Transparency and Quality of Care Act of 2008 to the House.
 

'Never event' Medicare reimbursement rules now in effect

As of this month, Medicare no longer is reimbursing healthcare facilities for "reasonably preventable" medical errors. Also, hospitals are not allowed to charge patients directly for medical care resulting from such errors.
