Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 53-year-old visiting nurse in connection with the slashing of six elderly patients’ feeding tubes at Philadelphia Nursing Home.

Joan Wood Barnes is wanted on assault and reckless endangerment charges, said Cathie Abookire, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Lynne Abraham.

Barnes is charged with six counts of simple assault, six counts of recklessly endangering another person and six counts of possession of an instrument of crime, Abookire said.

Barnes had worked at the nursing home on various occasions since May, said a source familiar with her work history at the facility. Previously, the traveling nurse had worked at the nursing home, left and returned.

All six patients survived the incidents but had to have their feeding tubes surgically reimplanted.
