Stimulus package reportedly still weeks from completion
Both House and Senate majority leaders have said details of the bill, which is reported to contain anywhere from $140 billion to $200 billion in temporary federal medical assistance percentage increases, could take an additional six weeks to hammer out, according to The Washington Post. Some estimates place the eventual costs of the stimulus package between $850 billion and $1 trillion.
Also included in the stimulus package are funds for healthcare information technology, which is not universally accepted. Saying that current systems are costly, inefficient and difficult to use, some experts are recommending limited funding of current electronic health record technology, and more emphasis on healthcare IT development, according to The Boston Globe.
