Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) says Senate Republicans will bring legislation for federal limits on medical lawsuits to the Senate floor within the next six weeks. Nursing home advocates will be eyeing the developments closely because Frist said the legislation might limit court damages to obstetric and gynecological services and trauma centers.

That means general medical care and long-term care could be excluded.

Frist mentioned a bill Senate Republicans brought last year that did not reap enough votes. “I could come back with the same bill [but] it’s going to get blocked by the Democrats,” he said.
