Salaries for nursing home administrator and nursing directors rise modestly in 2012, survey shows

Key skilled nursing facility managers saw small salary increases in 2012, according to new figures released Tuesday. The raises signal slow, steady economic improvement, say organizers of the survey, the largest of its kind.

Salary averages for directors of nursing, marketing directors and administrators rose 1.2% (to $82,186), 1.7% (to $51,000) and 1.9% (to $94,6785), respectively, according to the Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service’s 2012-2013 Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report.

HCS Director of Reports Rosanne Zabka told McKnight’s that even though salary increases were not large, “We still find it encouraging, since last year’s numbers were relatively flat. Some positions saw salaries increase by as much as 2%, but most were in the 1% range.”

The report, which is published in cooperation with LeadingAge and is supported by the American Health Care Association, includes data from 2,467 nursing homes, covering more than 205,000 employees nationwide. Responses were collected from 2,044 for-profit and 409 not-for-profit nursing homes. Data were reported on dozens of job titles according to revenue size, bed-size, ownership status, geographic region, state and county.
