Report: Medicaid funding, tort reform to be states' hot assisted living topics
State legislation watchers should keep an eye on Medicaid funding, state regulatory processes and medication management, a new federation report says.
The Assisted Living Federation of America recently released "Special Report: 2005 Legislative and Regulatory Outlook." The report provides a snapshot of issues affecting assisted living providers that will receive attention at the state level during this year's legislative sessions.
"Our findings show that 2005 will likely be a busy year for our industry, with many stakeholders focusing on industry standards, accessibility, and care delivery issues," said ALFA President and CEO Rick Grimes.
There appear to be several trends in state activity related to changes in assisted living laws, according to the report. Those areas include Medicaid funding, state regulatory processes, medication management and tort reform. Also, a handful of states could be poised to undertake an overhaul of assisted living regulations.
