Charitable organizations should strengthen oversight and reporting of their activities, according to a report issued this week from a panel of nonprofit leaders.

The report recommended more than 120 ways for nonprofit organizations, Congress and the Internal Revenue Service to improve the governance and accountability of charities.

The Panel on the Nonprofit Sector convened last October at the urging of Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (I-IA) and Max Baucus (D-MT) who were concerned about the practices of some organizations in the nonprofit sector.
