A New York nursing home has admitted to tampering with records in an attempt to cover up the circumstances of a resident’s 2012 death.

Medford Multicare Center for Living in Riverhead, NY, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of first-degree attempted falsifying business records, which allegedly took place after the death of resident Aurelia Rios. Rios died after staff failed to attach her to a ventilator before she went to bed.

The nursing home and nine of its employees were indicted in the wake of Rios’ death. A respiratory therapist was found guilty on charges of criminally negligent homicide in July.

The New York Attorney General’s office said it would not prosecute the nursing home in exchange for pleading guilty to the records charges.
