NIC unveils 'game changer' data reports

Skilled care operators can soon gain quicker access to occupancy, patient mix and revenue data and other key information, thanks to free, quarterly reports the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care will start releasing.

The organization announced the new data source Wednesday at its 2016 Spring Investment Forum in Dallas. Quality mix, patient day mix and payer source information also will be included, according to Robert G. Kramer, the organization's CEO.The NIC Skilled Nursing Data Report is intended to bring more transparency to industry data, he noted.

The first installation will provide monthly data collected by the organization from October 31, 2011, through December 31, 2015. Data will be reported in the aggregate at the national level and is collected from a sampling of multi-facility skilled nursing operators.

The availability of information that is less that three months old will be a “game changer,” said Formation Capital CEO Arnold Whitman.

“Traditionally, we've relied on government reports that have 12- to 18-month-old data,” he explained.

The quarterly reports also will offer managed Medicare rates and trends.

The investment forum runs through Friday.
