A resident missing from a Missouri nursing home was rescued last week from a sinkhole behind the facility, according to local reports.

The incident occurred last Monday night, when the resident was found by staff at the Estates of Perryville in Perryville, MO, trapped in a sinkhole that had recently opened up. The resident was wheelchair-bound, and appeared to have “rolled” into the hole, according to Perryville Assistant Fire Chief Bill Jones.

“She had been missing for an undetermined amount of time, and the nursing home staff found her and contacted EMS and fire,” Jones told the Perryville Republic-Monitor. “We got over there almost immediately and assisted in getting her out of the hole and getting her loaded up.”

The resident was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the newspaper. A call for comment from the facility was not returned by production deadline Friday.
