There have been two cases of mob-related violence at nursing homes in India this month following the deaths of residents there.

This week, an emotional mob of relatives and friends of a woman who died in a nursing home pelted the facility with stones, shouted at doctors and physically fought with some of the medical staff.

Local police said that 30-year-old Ashtami Das was admitted to Ramkrishna Nursing Home in the Phoolbagan area of Calcutta and died later that evening. Relatives and neighbors of the woman accused the facility of medical negligence. No arrests were made in the incident and the family of the woman did not lodge any police complaint against the nursing home.

In a similar incident earlier this month, an angry mob gathered in front of a private nursing home in Shimoga, India, and threw stones at the nursing home, smashing its windowpanes after hearing about the death of a woman who reportedly died there. Doctors said the woman died of a heart attack.
