Maryland and North Carolina are among several states set to receive a portion of the settlement stemming from a nursing home company kickback case.

Mariner Health Care Inc. and Sava Senior Care Administrative Services will pay a total of $14 million to state Medicare and Medicaid programs, state attorney generals in Maryland and North Carolina said. North Carolina will receive $897,808.03 and Maryland will receive $137,735.51.

The settlement stems from a 2009 complaint alleging that pharmaceutical giant Omnicare agreed to pay $50 million in exchange for Mariner Health Care Inc. and Sava Senior Care Administrative Services agreeing to use the company for 15 years. Omnicare settled their case in 2009, agreeing to pay $98 million.
