LeadingAge's Center for Aging Services Technologies released its 2014 version of a tool to enable long-term providers to choose the best electronic health record for their needs.

New this year are EHRs designed for attending long-term and post-acute care physicians, and the introduction of KLAS research ratings, as the group recently started evaluating LTPAC electronic records. After reading the CAST white paper, providers are encouraged to answer questions in a selection matrix. There also are four case studies available.

“We launched this portfolio to help providers make the right decision, and not to get lost in a sales pitch,” said Majd Alwan, Ph.D., LeadingAge senior vice president for technology and executive director of CAST.

Providers also want to know whether a system will be interoperable with other products, Alwan noted.

Providers can choose to have only integrated systems shown, or filter to see EHRs that have the ability to interface with third-party finance, HR or ancillary vendors, he added.

Another topic on the mind of providers is the ability to view analytics.

“This year we have added analytics capability. We want them to use EHR to drive quality improvement supported by data,” Alwan noted.

The matrix and online tool have 225 functionalities comparing 32 products.

Participating EHR Vendors were ADS Data Systems, Afoundria, Allscripts, American Data, Answers on Demand (AOD), BlueStep, CareVoyant Inc., Catalyst Healthcare Ltd., Cerner Extended Care, Extended Care Professional, gEHRiMed, Health Care Software, HealthMEDX, Hi-Tech Software Solutions, LG CNS, LINTECH, MatrixCare, McKesson, Med e-care Healthcare Solutions Inc., Melyx Corporation, Momentum Healthware, New Tech Computer System, NTT DATA, Optimus EMR, PointClickCare ResCare LLC, Senior Care Software Inc., SigmaCare, SOS Corp., Suncoast Solutions WinCare and Yardi/ALMSA.
