The 3rd Annual Safe-Rx Awards, an event to be held next month, will spotlight changes and advances in the field of “e-prescribing,” a practice that is becoming more commonly used in nursing homes.

Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, will unveil a new nationwide ranking and analysis of e-prescribing practices in all 50 states and Washington D.C. He will also present the third annual Safe-Rx Awards to officials and leading physicians from the top 10 e-prescribing states. The event will take place March 4 at the Hyatt Regency Washington in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) will discuss refinements in the E-MEDS bill, a bipartisan effort to increase the practice of e-prescribing across the country. Additionally, the program will spotlight a nationwide program designed to help more physicians begin e-prescribing. Four prominent physician associations – the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) – are leading the effort.
