A government-mandated request for additional healthcare data may result in the Internal Revenue Service requiring another form beyond a W-2 for employees, a payroll expert said last week.

The IRS Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee advised that a separate electronic reporting process be used to transmit health data, a member of the committee said in a presentation at the American Payroll Association’s Capital Summit.

The employee healthcare information reporting process needs to be clarified, said committee member Rebecca Harshberger, a vice president at Entertainment Partners, according to BNA. IRPAC would prefer if employers were allowed to use a voice-response system for employees, a strategy used by several large employers, she said.
