Providers should postpone submitting Medicare claims for power wheelchairs that ask for an add-on payment until after April 1, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a Feb. 14 fact sheet.

In the fiscal year 2006 spending bill for the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress has suggested delaying the use of funds to implement or enforce a CMS interim final rule on power mobility devices (PMD) until April 1.

The final rule, which went into effect last fall, requires providers to submit pertinent parts of the medical record to the durable medical equipment (DME) supplier within 30 days of a face-to-face examination.

CMS stated in the fact sheet that claims that contain the add-on payment will not be processed until after April 1. View the fact sheet at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/apps/media/?media=facts.
