GAO: Flaws in last year's drug card program, trouble ahead?
Many problems plagued the Medicare prescription drug discount card program last year, according to a new Government Accountability Office report.
Those problems could foreshadow trouble for the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, legislators say. The report cited inaccurate posting of program information online and improper use of the discount cards to purchase drugs not covered under the program.
The drug discount card program was a precursor to the prescription drug program, which is scheduled to begin this Jan. 1. It enrolled 6.4 million beneficiaries, including 1.9 million low-income beneficiaries.
