Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

After narrowly passing a healthcare stopgap bill that included a therapy caps extension package, Democrats in Congress are finding it difficult to bring their major reform proposal across the finish line, according to recent reports.

Although the president’s most recent deadline—March 18—is just days away, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has said she will give House members at least a week to review the Senate version of healthcare legislation, The New York Times reported. Congress adjourns for a two-week break on March 26.

Democrats hope to attach the perpetually stalled healthcare bill to another bit of legislation they’ve had trouble passing—an expansion of federal aid to college students. The move has met with some preliminary approval from the White House, according to The Washington Post.

Changes to the healthcare system that affect long-term care providers, including the soon-to-be-released MDS 3.0 and RUGs systems, new information technology requirements and advances in wound care, will be discussed at the upcoming fourth annual McKnight’s Online Expo.
