The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is holding a bonus Open Door Forum listening session on long-term care pharmacy practices.

Federal officials invite stakeholders to register comments from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 on standards of practice and the issues that may be involved in the implementation of the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit in long-term care settings.

Federal officials will not be responding to comments made. Rather, the session is designed to gather input from all sides to learn what issues should be studied. Officials have admitted that, despite passage of the Medicare prescription benefit late last year, no one is clear on the implications of it for nursing homes and their residents.

There are two ways to participate in the forum –- by phoning (800) 837-1935 (conference ID No. 1710525) or by attending in-person at a CMS building in Baltimore. For the latter, an RSVP e-mail must be sent to Special ODF@cms.hhs.gov by Nov. 12.
