Deadly Michigan fire under investigation
Police are investigating the cause of a fatal fire that broke out last week in a nursing home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The fire occurred last Monday at the Mather Nursing Center, a 122-bed facility, about 360 miles north of Detroit. More than 100 residents evacuated outside into the 14-degree cold. Two died of smoke inhalation. At least 70 were injured.
The victims, 87-year-old Margaret M. Sarasien, and Harry H. Mattice, 79, lived across the hall from each other and two doors down from the room where the fire started.
