The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will hold a special "Open Door Forum" Monday to discuss the new therapy cap exceptions process.

After years of delays and moratoriums, the Medicare Part B outpatient therapy caps went into effect in January. They limit the annual amount of therapy allowed to $1,740 for occupational therapy, and $1,740 for speech and physical therapy combined.

CMS, however, fast-tracked an exceptions process that will allow an estimated 80% of the 800,000 expected to exceed a cap to continue therapy.

To learn more about the automatic and applied exemptions, you can listen to CMS officials explain the process and answer audience questions by telephone from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) Monday. The Open Door Forum can be accessed by dialing (800) 837-1935. The conference ID number is 6276237.
