AZ 100 analysis: CCRC sector growing

A detailed report on the nation's largest not-for-profit senior living facilities will be released next week. It will mark the fifth publication of the AAHSA Ziegler AZ 100 listing.

Topping the 2008 list of the largest multisite facilities is the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, with 19,714 units. That is more than 26 times the size of the list's smallest system, Life Enriching Communities of Ohio.

The AZ 100 shows that 2007 brought overall growth for the not-for-profit facilities. In 2006, the publication tracked just over 186,000 units. Last year, the sector grew by 3.7%, to just shy of 193,000 units. Yet while more than half of the senior living facilities that the AZ 100 followed added rooms, some of the larger communities, including Good Samaritan, were cutting back.

The full report will be posted at both www.aahsa.org and www.zieglerseniorlivingfinance.com.
