Police said Monday that the death of a 93-year-old woman in a Winston-Salem, NC, assisted living facility is now being investigated as a homicide.

According to earlier reports, Opal Galloway was struck in the face and head by a mentally impaired 74-year-old man at Salem Terrace Assisted Living Facility and later died Feb. 7 at a local hospital. The alleged attacker, who was later taken for observation but was reportedly never charged in the incident, is no longer living at the facility, according to published reports.

Police say the motive for the attack is still unclear.

According to a report by a local television station, three minor assaults at the facility have been reported to police since Galloway’s death in early February.
