Long-term care associations are advising providers to prepare for a May 1 national boycott by immigrants and immigrant advocates. Such a boycott could affect resident care, the associations informed members in a memo.

The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living want facilities to ready their staffs for next Monday, when “A Day without an Immigrant” is scheduled to take place. Organizers of the national boycott are asking that immigrants, both legal and illegal, boycott work and school in an effort to highlight the economic importance of undocumented immigrants.

The associations are encouraging all facilities to review the Essential Worker Immigrant Coalition’s What Businesses and Employers Should Consider document, AHCA President Bruce Yarwood said in a recent memo. The EWIC offers suggestions on how to prepare for the boycott, including what to do if an employee requests the day off.
