A new poll released Thursday by the American Health Care Association suggests strong public support for extending federal Medicaid funding.

Roughly 62% of people surveyed in the Mellman Group poll supported additional federal funding for Medicaid, AHCA said. Nearly 75% opposed Medicaid cuts to nursing home reimbursement. Only 15% of those surveyed were in favor of cuts to nursing home funding. Voters were more likely to oppose a candidate who favors nursing home cuts by a margin of 64% to 11%, according to an AHCA press release.

A temporary boost to the federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) is set to expire at the end of the year, potentially throwing off state budget calculations for the coming fiscal year. A provision to extend the funding by six months is currently being debated in Congress.
