Handrails or grab bars are the most common modification made for seniors, closely followed by rugs to prevent tripping, according to a new analysis. Fewer are saying they are installing sensors.

Home health software review company Software Advice gathered 1,800 survey responses from seniors and families to ask about what they’ve changed in the home to create a safer environment.

While 13% said they are installing handrails or grab bars, and 12% said they were removing rugs, around 8% said they were putting in non-skid mats.

A handful of respondents said they were putting in sensors on windows. Around 20% of those with senior parents said they would want to receive electronic safety updates from a home health clinician.
