Dartmouth-Hitchcock and E4H Environments for Health Architecture, an architecture firm, announced the completion and Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH.

The 30,000-square-foot facility sits on the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center campus. It has 12 large single-occupancy patient rooms that each can accommodate up to three family members overnight.

There is a chapel, sunroom, massage room, art and music therapy room, spa and family library. Other therapeutic spaces include a playroom for children and an exercise room. Telehealth videoconferencing also is available for patients.

“The Jack Byrne Center is much more than a center that manages patients’ pain — it is a comforting, spiritual haven that allows Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s patients to receive exceptional medical care, with welcoming accommodations for their loved ones to be with and support them,” said Charlie Rizza, AIA, Associate Partner, E4H Environments for Health Architecture.

The center will provide training for end-of-life caregivers in New England. Construction began in June 2016, and philanthropic support covered 76% of the center’s cost. This included a $10 million commitment from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation in 2014.
