Developing A Residency In Post-Acute Care

A new book covers residency in post-acute care, with a goal of helping support new nurses entering the sector.

Developing a Residency in Post-Acute Care was written by Rutgers School of Nursing authors Edna Cadmus, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, Susan Salmond, EdD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, Linda Hassler, DNP, RN, GCNS-BC, FNGNA, Nancy Bohnarczyk, MA, RN, CNE, and Katherine Kuren Black, MSN, RN-BC. It is published by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). Features include:

  •         Lesson plans, objectives, and outlines
  •         Detailed case studies
  • Activities geared toward adult learners
  • Participant evaluation methods
  • Strategies for presenting material
  • References and additional resources

“When we were researching nurse residency programs, there was none on [long-term care] residency,” said Hassler. “We had to start from scratch to develop our program, so we thought it would be a great idea to disseminate it through a book. The book is a ‘tool kit’ for implementing a nurse residency program. The lesson plans are filled with action learning, websites, and resources to teach the program.”
