Alice H. Hedt has been named the executive director of the National Citizens’ Coalition for Nursing Home Reform. Hedt led the National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center at NCCNHR since 1998. She takes over for Donna Lenhoff, who resigned in November.

“Alice was one of the first long-term care ombudsmen in North Carolina, where for 11 years she responded daily to the many problems with which nursing home residents struggle to cope – including serious neglect and abuse – and with the concerns of their families,” said NCCNHR President William F. Benson.

Prior to joining NCCNHR, Hedt managed four adult day health programs in Prince Georges County, MD, as well as adult community health for the Mecklenburg County, NC, Department of Public Health. In 1981, she managed a regional North Carolina ombudsman program that aimed to assist and protect residents in long-term care facilities.
