Medicare Benefit Policy Manual
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has revised the Medicare Benefit Policy manual to clarify that skilled care and skilled therapy may be covered even for conditions that will not improve, per the settlement in the high-profile Jimmo v. Sebelius case.
I'm an administrator who's read all of this stuff about overuse of antipsychotics on long-term care residents. I like and trust my director of nursing, medical director and clinical staff — to a degree, that is — but what can I do to REALLY know that we're not overusing this stuff, and would not be liable for some sort of adverse regulatory or court findings?
Under a proposed settlement, a nationwide class of beneficiaries will be certified, numerous parts of the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual will be rewritten, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will carry out an educational campaign for providers, Medicare contractors and adjudicators.
