There might be no hotter topic today for long-term care operators than the new Minimum Data Set (MDS 3.0). After many years in the making and an extra year’s delay, it looks like it will definitely take effect Oct. 1.

Providers, vendors and, of course, regulators, have a lot at stake here. And, unlike certain rule making or policies, this is something that cannot be figured out as you go along. Officials from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have publicly stated: If this is not done right from the start, you simply will not be paid. Period.

In this hourlong webcast, three experts detailed what is ahead, and answered inquiries in a lengthy Q&A session. Headlining the event was Mary Van de Kamp, senior vice president for clinical operations at Peoplefirst Rehabilitation. She was joined by colleagues Glenda Mack, senior director of clinical operations at Peoplefirst, and David Tate, senior director of client relations.

McKnight’s Editor James M. Berklan moderated the event, while Peoplefirst Rehabilitation sponsored it.

The webcast is available for viewing, and the accompanying slide deck can be downloaded, for 90 days at http://video.webcasts.com/events/haym002/34625/.
