Long-term care advocates who sometimes feel like their community is singled out for excessive criticism may be wondering why they can’t catch a break – even from one of their own subcontractors.

Barbour Griffith & Rogers, a high-profile lobbying firm that represents the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care, has reportedly signed on to run the campaign of Serbian ultra-nationalist Tomislav Nikolic in the former Yugoslavia, according to the United Press International. The leader of Nikolic’s Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj, is being held in The Hague, awaiting trial on war crimes charges. The political landscape in Serbia and Montenegro remains volatile, rife with political assassinations and corruption. Former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, a devout nationalist like Nikolic, earned the nickname the “Butcher of the Balkans” in the 1990s and is currently on trial in The Hague on charges of genocide and inciting the bloodiest fighting in Europe since World War II.

Barbour Griffith & Rogers represents other interests in the United States, in addition to the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care. The Alliance includes numerous large for-profit long-term care chains.
