Kindred Healthcare said Tuesday it has settled with the Kentucky’s Office of the Attorney General in connection with the state’s crackdown on nursing homes.

Louisville, KY-based Kindred has agreed to pay about $450,000 to state agencies, donate $500,000 to the Kentucky nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund, and sign a three-year $900,000 agreement to enhance its staff training programs at its 16 Kentucky nursing homes.

“This is a fair result consistent with the shared goals of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and Kindred to improve the quality of care of our residents in our nursing centers,” said Paul J. Diaz, chief executive of Kindred.
